What sets us apart
Many of our competitors over the years have sold their businesses to large distributors, who focus heavily on sales first, and service last. Instead, QBM distinguishes itself by providing exceptional and knowledgeable service as the core of our business.
In 1973 Edgar Thyret left his job at the prominent belting sales company Hewitt-Robins to join his two partners, Thomas E. Doherty and Peter G. Jaroszewski, in starting their own business. They all had extensive experience with conveyor belt sales however wanted to focus on the service side of the industry. At the time that the business was incorporated in 1974, it was being run out of Edgar’s father-in-law’s garage.
The company would successfully expand across Canada with branches in Hamilton, Montreal, Gravenhurst, and Dartmouth.
David Thyret began working for his father when he was just 17 years old. Following a move to Fort Worth Texas in 1986 to further develop the American side of the business, he progressed to Branch Manager in Chicago Illinois in 1989.
In 1993 David returned to Canada to expand sales in Southern Ontario but soon realized that his skills were better utilized in the field. In 2002, David became president of Canadian operations, while Edgar moved to incorporate in the United States opening branches in Buffalo NY, Cleveland OH, Lakeland FL, and Providence RI.
David has successfully managed and grown Canadian operations over the past twenty years through his focus of “people first”. Through his leadership, QBM has emerged as a key player in providing belting service to the mining, cement, and aggregate industries.
David has now taken on the role of US General Manager and plans to mirror the strong growth that the Canadian operations has seen over the past twenty years.
Watching so many competitors sell their businesses to large sales corporations and recognizing that many young entrepreneurs do not have the means to start or take over a successful company, Edgar and David offered the opportunity for QBM employees to become managing partners.
