Founded in 1974 by Edgar Thyret, the business has expanded into a Canadian company with international scope, with locations in Canada and the USA. Today, QBM provides conveyor belt products and services to belt-intensive industries, such as:

Leadership
Edgar Thyret
In 1973 Edgar Thyret left his job at the prominent belting sales company Hewitt-Robins to join his two partners, Thomas E. Doherty and Peter G. Jaroszewski, in starting their own business. They all had extensive experience with conveyor belt sales however wanted to focus on the service side of the industry. At the time that the business was incorporated in 1974, it was being run out of Edgar’s father-in-law’s garage.
The company would successfully expand across Canada with branches in Hamilton, Montreal, Gravenhurst, and Dartmouth.
David Thyret
David Thyret began working for his father when he was just 17 years old. Following a move to Fort Worth Texas in 1986 to further develop the American side of the business, he progressed to Branch Manager in Chicago Illinois in 1989.
In 1993 David returned to Canada to expand sales in Southern Ontario but soon realized that his skills were better utilized in the field. In 2002, David became president of Canadian operations, while Edgar moved to incorporate in the United States opening branches in Buffalo NY, Cleveland OH, Lakeland FL, and Providence RI.
David has successfully managed and grown Canadian operations over the past twenty years through his focus of “people first”. Through his leadership, QBM has emerged as a key player in providing belting service to the mining, cement, and aggregate industries.
David has now taken on the role of US General Manager and plans to mirror the strong growth that the Canadian operations has seen over the past twenty years.
Managing Partners
Watching so many competitors sell their businesses to large sales corporations and recognizing that many young entrepreneurs do not have the means to start or take over a successful company, Edgar and David offered the opportunity for QBM employees to become managing partners.
Tristan Lee
Tristan began his career at QBM in 2006 as a technician. Thanks to his strong work ethic and desire to provide for his family, Tristan progressed to General Manager and part owner of the company. Tristan is now part of the next generation of company leadership, helping to keep QBM as a successful family run business.
Jack Huhtalo
Jack Huhtalo started in at our Hamilton branch in 2007 after completing an entrepreneur program at Brock. Hired initially for inside sales, he took on the role of field technician and later became branch manager. Today Jack is responsible for a team of 5 employees, focused on the ever-growing needs of Hamilton businesses.
Mike Dion
Mike Dion has over 2 decades of experience with QBM, coming on board in 1997 as a temp. He progressed through the company, enjoying the work and the opportunity to travel the world. His focus on hard work in the field led him to become territory manager in Hamilton for 10 years, and eventually partner. Mike specializes in difficult installations, and prides himself on his technical skills, knowledge, and job planning.
